Data Engineering

Data Engineering is the field of designing, building, and maintaining systems that collect, process, store, and deliver data so that it can be used effectively for analytics, reporting, machine learning, and business decisions.

In simple terms:

Data Engineers build the roads and pipelines through which data travels.

What does a Data Engineer do?

A typical data engineer works on:

  1. Data Collection – Getting data from databases, APIs, applications, files, IoT devices, etc.

  2. Data Ingestion – Moving data from source systems into a data platform.

  3. Data Transformation – Cleaning, joining, filtering, and restructuring raw data.

  4. Data Storage – Storing data in data warehouses, data lakes, or databases.

  5. Data Pipelines – Automating the movement and processing of data.

  6. Data Quality – Ensuring data is accurate, consistent, complete, and reliable.

  7. Data Infrastructure – Building scalable systems that can handle large volumes of data.
